Udjo Ngalagena
The Dedication of
Udjo & Uum.
In 1966, Mang Udjo Ngalagena and his wife, Uum Sumiati, founded Saung Angklung Udjo in Padasuka, Bandung. Starting from a simple desire to preserve the angklung as a Sundanese cultural heritage, the two built a studio that became not only an art stage, but also an educational center for children.
"Saung Angklung Udjo was born from the love of Abah Udjo (late) and Ibu Uum Sumiati (late) for children's education and traditional Sundanese culture—a dedication that lives on to this day."

Ten Children,
One Symphony.
For Mang Udjo, family was the foundation of every bamboo vibration. His ten sons and daughters were not merely successors, but an integral part of the preservation mission he pioneered alongside Ibu Uum Sumiati from scratch on Jalan Padasuka.
"Despite limitations in road access, facilities, infrastructure and human resources, Abah Udjo built a community-based tourism foundation."
Kaulinan
Urang Lembur.
"These principles were then developed into a performance concept combining elements of play and education, wrapped in Sundanese art."
Through this concept, Abah Udjo proved that learning culture can be done in the most joyful way: through play. Kaulinan Urang Lembur became the soul of every performance at Saung Angklung Udjo to this day.

"I founded Saung Angklung Udjo together with my wife, with the aspiration that I want to bring happiness to every person, using the abilities I have."
